1.Soil Vitality Mix also EFA compatible
Sow rate 25 kg/ha
The seed mix is designed more for use on lighter land. Different to the soil structure seed mix in that it includes the use of a deeper rooting tillage radish this seed mix is designed to put out a mass of fine roots allowing the soil to de Flocculate including two oat varieties that will scavenge deeper allowing relocation of Phosphorus and Potash into the rooting zone of newly established crops. The seed mix is EFA compatible for use with the Catch and Cover crop options and can also be used for EFA fallow as a wild bird seed mix – use of the KVITBIRD code for invoices for (EFA Fallow) is important if used for this option.

2.Potter Seed Mix YWA Seed
Sow rate 25 kg/ha
This mix was developed over a number of seasons from 2016 to 2019 on farm with Graham Potter and with some minor modifications to improve performance. The seed mix has been observed and trialled by members of the Topcliffe Pilot group and also Kings. It has provided good Nutrient capture performance, soil improvement and organic matter increase. The mix contains two nitrogen fixing plants with Vetch and Burseem clover. Nitrogen production has averaged 45 kg per ha in combination with reliable nitrogen capture, providing on averages 70/90 kg of Nitrogen /ha. This mix is not EFA compatible and should be used for cover crop options and uses outside EFA and greening.

3.KSOILSTRUCT Soil Structure EFA Compatible
Sow rate 30 kg/ha
The soil structure seed mix was designed to work on heavy more compacted and damaged land areas. The mix has evolved over a number of seasons to increase its nutrient capture performance and soil compaction assistance. The use of the Stinger Tillage radish variety has allowed even some of the worst compaction layers to be improved allowing root channelling for other species in the seed mix to increase nutrient capture and soil conditioning. Observations following the use of this type of seed mix are easier soil working characteristics requiring less power and lower energy input. The seed mix is EFA compatible with all three requirements – Catch and Cover crop and can be used as part of EFA Fallow using the KRADBIRD code on invoices.

4.Super 10 seed mix
Sow rate 25 kg / ha
A very effective mix of warm and cold plants to assist soil conditioning and nutrient capture and soil erosion but also work effectively to Increase soil Biota and Mycorrhizal activity. The seed mix can be supplied with or without oil radish if preferred to increase soil Mycorrhizal activity. The seed mix is not EFA compatible but can be used outside any Greening rules. The seed mix can also be used as a very effective short-term cover crop and one example might be after an early harvested Pea crop or Winter Barley to cover ground and retain nutrient before the October establishment of a 2nd cereal crop, useful in Black grass control situations.

Cover crops when drilled early can provide the soil with a living root, taking up available nitrogen and also reducing the risk of soil erosion
Farmers across the 3 pilots in Year 1 took part in our cover crop growing competition. This illustrates the growth of different radish varieties at one of the Sustainable Landscapes farms.
